Gone are the days we could count on the dollar to let us travel wherever we wanted. If you want to travel around the world today, it is going to cost you a lot more than it would have 20 years ago. But, it's not all bad news. We've done our research and have found several countries you can visit without breaking the bank. And don't worry, these destinations may be cheap to explore, but they are far from cheap when it comes to good food and memory making experiences.

Fiji

Forget whatever you've heard about this area being expensive – because it's not. If you do your research, that is. While there are many resorts that cost up to $1,000 a night, there are also many dorm rooms, hostels and all-inclusive guesthouses that will only cost you about $25 a night. Once you arrive, all you have to do is enjoy the local seafood and relax on the free beaches. Fiji

Cambodia

Many countries in Southeast Asia are cheap to visit, but Cambodia is one of the best because you can get a private room for about $20. Local food can be bought for cheap. In fact, they say if you spend $50 a day, you will be splurging on yourself. You will get to visit beautiful beaches, ruins and jungles. Cambodia

Portugal

History, wine and picturesque cliffs are all things you will get here – for cheap. It's almost like a cheaper version of Italy. You will stay in a five-star hotel for not a lot of money and enjoy some of the most delicious food cooked by locals, who, by the way, may be the friendliest people you will ever meet. Portugal

Peru

A visit here certainly won't be boring. You can visit the Inca trail, sail the Amazon, relax on the deserted beaches of Mancora or explore the ruins of Moray and Choquequirao. Most meals cost less than $5 and rooms can be rented for about $25. It's said that you can actually go anywhere in the country for less than $30. Peru

China

China is still considered an expensive place to visit, but there are several ways to save, especially if you find your way to the countryside. Rooms here are less than $20 a day and meals cost less than $5. Once you find out how to save money, you will be better able to enjoy the beautiful mountains, beaches and valleys.China

India

You can easily splurge on higher-end accommodations here without spending much more than $50 a day. Five-star resorts will cost you more but everything else is so cheap here you will be shocked. The most expensive part will be the actual flight to get there. However, you will be rewarded with historic trips to the Taj Mahal and the beaches of Goa. India

Greece

Here you can get huge meaty dinners for about $10 and drinks for just a few dollars. Rooms can be rented for about $30. Tourism has been on the decline here lately so that makes things even more cheaper. Once you are here, you will see postcard perfect views and historic sites. Greece

Indonesia

If you visit the touristy areas near Kuta, Seminyak and Ubud you will find everything overpriced and crowded with tourists. But if you go to other areas you can get affordable rooms and inexpensive meals made by locals for about $2. Most activities cost around $10. You will get to explore private beaches, volcanoes, food markets and jungles. Indonesia

Thailand

This is a very popular destination to visit so you would think it's expensive. However, it's quite cheap. Some hotel rooms cost less than $10, meals about $5 and beer just $2. You will be treated to a once-in-a-lifetime experience by friendly locals, not to mention warm weather, beautiful beaches and incredible jungles. Thailand

Guatemala

If you are looking for a cheap place to surf, walk through a jungle or view ancient ruins – this is the place for you. Hotels cost about $15 a night and most meals run around $3. You can buy beer for less than a buck. And it doesn't even cost a lot to get here since most flights to this country are cheap.Guatemala
